A cupcake a day chases the blues away



Today, I escaped the house renovations for a couple of hours for a catch-up with one of my best friends Jo. After a week of living in dust, dealing with bored two Jack Russells and being absolutely freezing due to cold weather, I was definitely in need of a a coffee and a cupcake!

Whilst we don't have the luxury of living in a city where you can pop to either the Hummingbird or Magnolia Bakeries (though just sometimes being a city girl would be fabulous), Blackpool does have a good cupcake cafe - cupcake -that fully satisfies our Carrie Bradshaw or Victory Ford cupcake cravings. I have to admit that I've got a slight addiction to cupcakes but try to limit myself to just an occasional visit to Cupcake. Freshly baked cupcakes are in a class of their own and shop-bought, over-produced cakes don't really cut the mustard, if you know what I mean!


As per usual, Vikki (owner and baker of Cupcake) did us proud with a variety of cupcakes to choose from. Today I went for a cookies and cream while Jo chose a Raspberry Ripple.



With cupcakes, lattes and cups of tea, we were able to catch up on the latest gossip from Greys Anatomy, True Blood, Flashforward as well as a discussion on essential holiday packing required for a trip to the states. Of course, a discussion on the election results was high on the agenda.

I could have stayed there all day but the call of the shops were hard to resist, although I only window-shopped on this occasion. Cupcake also gives cupcake decorating classes so I might have to indulge myself in a couple of lessons and awaken my inner domestic goddess!

My new obsession

A year ago, I decided to do something about getting healthy and making time for exercise.   I'd tried a gym and managed to fall off  a treadmill, my attempt at Zumba was one spin too many and trampolining keep fit resulted in painful knees and a struggle to get up off a train seat. But I've caught the running bug! This time last year I started to go running, after seeing an online post about starting up a small running group.  My early running days were a struggle, barely able to jog let alone run for a minute.  But I stuck to it and can now run for ten minutes nonstop, actually run! The beach promenade is my gym, a early morning run on a Saturday morning is my work out and I am ready for more.  Instead of a new years resolution, I set myself challenges for this year including running my first 5k and by spring I aim to do this. It does mean that some of my footwear choices lately haven't been about the height but more about comfort and speed, but it doesn't me

Shoe of the week

Shoe of the week . . . Really? For the current weather we are experiencing, I should be nominating a pair of waders of the week!  With May apparently going to be the wettest month this year, a pair of wellingtons rather than a great pair of heels is what you need.  But why should they be boring. These wellies from Funky Wellingtons should be enough to brighten any dismal day. Got to protect those paws I can't forget my four-legged friends during the wet weather, our dogs still need to get outside and exercise but it doesn't mean they are waterproof!  So, a set of boots for dogs would be perfect to ensure those lower to the ground are protected from the cold too!.
